Please understand – I am not equating your heart with the hearts of the people who gathered for a white power rally in Charlottesville, Virginia this morning.
I know you voted for Donald Trump because you feel left out of the economy, angered by the cultural direction of the country, or put down by a lot of what gets said in the media. If there are other reasons, please tell me and let us work to heal the riff between us. We have not been talking about politics since the election, but, respectfully, I ask that we begin trying to find peace between us as friends and family members.
Those people at Charlottesville this morning are nothing like you. They are filled with hate and raring to do the kind of violence we saw in Germany as it was turning into Nazi Germany. Some even carried Nazi flags. And they behaved like the thugs of the early Hitler youth, beating and pulling guns on those who they thought were inferior. When the situation became so volatile that local police called off the rally, one of them drove a car through opposition protesters – the same kind of terrorist attack we have seen in France and England in the past few months. 1 person was killed, 19 more injured, many are in critical condition.
For hours, President Trump said nothing, but when he finally spoke out, he seemed to lump all of the protesters together – the violent one who drove the high-powered car into pedestrians and the ones who cheered as it was happening were lumped in with the protesters who were mowed down. President Trump said there had been terrible violence “on all sides.”
The phone number to the white house is: (202) 456-1111
If this side of the Trump movement is not the side you voted for, please call and say so. Otherwise he thinks he’s looking good. He thinks he’s getting away without saying a loud, clear “NO!” to the guys with the Nazi flags and swastikas.
So I’m begging you to call and say ” No! ” Don’t let this kind of thing be done in your name. Don’t let it become business as usual in our country. I’m going to call too, as will many of my friends who voted against President Trump. But it will mean much more coming from the people who put him in office. For the better Angels of our nature, please share and call – (202) 456-1111. The White House comment line is only open on weekdays 9am-4pm.
As is email but you have to go on the white house site and write your email on their form.
